Private expert guide, mix of overground and underground stops, focus on ancient lifestyle, final food tasting in a medieval cellar.
Have you ever dreamt of walking 4 meters under the cobblestones of a medieval town? There’s another Parma to be discovered and explored underneath with a local expert guide!
An evocative and educational underground experience in the wake of the most precious element ever: water.
Our licensed expert guide will meet you in Piazza Garibaldi – the townsquare where everything started 2.000 years ago – to start an immersive adventure in the most ancient reticulum of streets, alleys, crossroads and canals. The time machine will surely stop at the roman bridge hidden under the medieval market place not too far from the river and then it’ll bring you down to the secret doors of an extra-ordinary manufact: rebuilt in the mid-1800s at the behest of Duchess Maria Luigia of Habsburg, who was farsightedly ruling over Parma in those troubled years ahead of the Independence Wars, the so-called “Fountains Gallery” runs over a pre-existing section of the former roman aqueduct restored by Duke Ottavio Farnese in 1570.
The last underground incursion will be a real treat: comfortably seated in the medieval cellars of a16th-century palace, you will have deserved a rich merenda in the truest Parma style at a very, very special table: try it and see!
