Did you know that Emilia-Romagna is home to 2 National Parks, including the stunning Tuscan-Emilian Apennines National Park, 17 National Nature Reserves, 14 Regional Parks, 1 expansive River-Area full of protected biodiversities (Po Delta Regional Park), and 2 particular UNESCO Mab reserves? One of Italy’s greenest regions, for sure! As a result, this makes it a splendid location for your Outdoor Experience. The western portion of the region extends literally from the rich lowlands of the so-called Great River, south of Milan – where a number of legendary cured meats, including Culatello di Zibello, are produced – to the 2.000-meter-high peaks bordering Tuscany and Liguria, a Climbing enthusiast’s paradise. It passes through the picturesque green hills of Piacenza, Parma, Reggio-Emilia, Modena, and Bologna, which are dotted with medieval villages with castle annexations, hard-working farmers, tiny wine estates, and notable Parmigiano, Prosciutto, and Balsamico makers.
The majority of our outdoor activities are fairly leisurely, low-intensity, and, obviously, taste-pleasing. Examples include truffle hunting in Italy’s Parma/Bologna hills and food tours by e-bike in Piacenza, Parma, and Reggio-Emilia’s lowlands or hills, not to mention the Parmigiano bike tour. For those who have more energy and a thirst for adventure, we recommend one of our fishing, hiking, or canyoning days in Val Trebbia – which Ernest Hemingway regarded as one of the most stunning valleys he had ever seen – or a heart-pounding Rafting excursion. As an alternative, think about taking an escorted hiking tour of the mountains that connect the provinces of Parma and Piacenza with the magnificent Cinque Terre region in Liguria: a tiny piece of heaven and an incredible visual treat.
Last but not least, if our paragliding experiences can make the brave-hearted happy as a child with cotton candy, a day to spend at one of the 5 country-chic golf-resorts of the Region is always a good option for the chill-out holiday seeker out there!
