Parma (PR) - 3 days

Parma (PR) - 3 days
Day 1

Guided tour of Parma to discover the historical craft realities of the city and the masters of gastronomy and pastry, not forgetting the masterpieces of architecture and art.  From the Farnese to the Bourbons, from Maria Luigia, wife of Napoleon, to the masterpieces of Correggio and Parmigianino. Highly reccommended a quick stop, tasting in a historical pastry shop (pasticceria) during the walk.
The chance to visit the magical Baptistery and extraordinary Cathedral, cold and austere on the outside, rich and ornate on the inside, with the masterpiece by Correggio on the Cathedral cupola.
Lunch at ‘Pepèn’, a typical sandwich bar serving top quality street food with bizarre names like Carciofa (the artichoker), lo Spaccaballe (the ball breaker) and meatballs of raw horse meat. When in Parma, do as Parmesan would do.

Free time for shopping and in the late afternoon departure for Gambaro di Ferriere where the charming owners of the castle will welcome you.  Install yourselves in your room and then dine in the company of la Signora Clara who will tell you tall stories of dragons and plots accompanied by the typical dishes of the Piacenza hills prepared by Signor Valentino.

Day 2
Breakfast at the Castle Gambaro di Ferriere and guided tour.
Transfer to Compiano through the Val Nure one of the most beautiful valleys of the Piacenza Apennines.
Lunch at the agriturismo Le Carovane and in the afternoon light trekking with one of the 50 horses of the Bardigiana breed of horses.
In the evening transfer for the overnight stay either in  Borgo Casale or in the Castle of Compiano according to availability.  Borgo Casale is a historical residential site obtained from re-structuring an entire hamlet of stone farm houses , decorated by cascades of petunias.  Dinner will be served in the informal ‘shabby chic’ restaurant il Panigaccio within the scenographic Castle of Compiano.
After dinner depart for Bardi to enjoy an evocative nighttime visit to the Castle and hope to see the ghost which haunts it and which has actually been photographed there.
Return to Borgo Casale for overnight stay.

Day 3
Breakfast at Borgo Casale in the relaxing breakfast room
Depart for Compiano to visit the castle belonging to the latest chatelaine, Marchesa Gambarotta.
In the late morning depart for Borgo Taro for a walk in the historical centre of the town and the chance to buy the highly prized dried mushrooms from Borgo Taro.
Free time for lunch
After lunch leave for Corchia, a small hamlet from the XIV century which has been rebuilt and enjoy a walk in the historical streets and admire the centuries old chestnut trees.
